What happens if you inherit a business and aren’t prepared?

Have you just inherited the responsibility of managing the family business, but you’re not quite ready or have all of the experience you wish you had to feel confident in performing all of the responsibilities?
Sometimes a business owner is forced to turn over his or her company before he or she is ready or the person or persons taking over are not quite prepared or experienced. This may be the result of an illness or even a death.
The person taking over the helm may be a spouse or child. They may benefit from someone with extensive experience in managing businesses acting as a mentor or coach the assist them in getting up to speed in the “business” end of the business. They may have a solid understanding of the trade or service that the company is providing, but need assistance in the management of the departments, streamlining the operations procedures, understanding how to interpret financial information or a host of other challenges that come with managing the entire operation of the company.
